The Winninger Kirchberg, or 'Church Hill', is one of the Mosel's most dramatic steep-slope vineyards, rising directly behind the village church in Winningen. Characterized by its unique soil composition of soft, weathered Devonian slate mixed with quartz, this site enjoys a slightly cooler microclimate that preserves vibrant acidity. Heymann-Löwenstein crafts this Riesling using traditional, low-intervention methods: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in large, neutral oak casks (Fuder) followed by extensive contact with the fine lees. This patient approach coaxes out a deeply mineral, structured wine defined by smoky flint, wild herbs, and intense stone fruit, embodying the wild, untamed spirit of the Terrassenmosel.
