The Cuv e Clos des Avaux is one of the most historic and cherished red offerings from the Hospices de Beaune. Sourced entirely from the Premier Cru climat of Clos des Avaux, located on the gentle mid-slopes of Beaune, this vineyard has been meticulously cultivated for centuries. The name 'Avaux' historically refers to the valley-like depression of the site, which benefits from excellent drainage and clay-limestone soils. This terroir imparts a classic Beaune character to the Pinot Noir: a beautiful balance of bright red berry fruits, subtle earthy undertones, and silky yet structured tannins. As with all Hospices cuv es, it represents a marriage of Burgundy's rich monastic and charitable winemaking history with the unique expression of a single, highly esteemed Premier Cru climat.

Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, the Hospices de Beaune was established as a charitable hospital supported by donations of prime vineyard parcels. Today, the historic estate encompasses over 60 hectares of exceptionally situated Premier and Grand Cru vineyards across Burgundy's Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Revered worldwide for its historic charity wine auction held every November since 1859, the domaine employs meticulous, organic viticultural techniques to highlight the uncompromised terroir of each plot. Its celebrated portfolio consists of distinguished Pinot Noir and Chardonnay cuvées, each named in honor of prominent historical benefactors such as Cuvée Nicolas Rolin and Cuvée Charlotte Dumay.
