The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 'Cuvée du Roi Soleil' is one of the most prestigious white wine cuvées offered by the Hospices de Beaune. It pays tribute to King Louis XIV, the 'Sun King', who visited the Hospices in 1658 and was a legendary patron of Burgundy's finest nectars. Sourced from prized, steep parcels of Chardonnay on the iconic hill of Corton, this wine benefits from limestone-dominant soils and optimal sun exposure. The terroir imparts a majestic power, intense concentration, and a signature flinty minerality. Vinified with meticulous care and aged in French oak casks, this Grand Cru represents the pinnacle of Burgundian Chardonnay, marrying opulent fruit with a tense, age-worthy structure.

Hospices de Beaune blev grundlagt i 1443 af Nicolas Rolin, kansler for hertugen af Bourgogne, og hans hustru Guigone de Salins. Institutionen blev etableret som et velgørende hospital og blev fra begyndelsen finansieret via donationer af førsteklasses vinmarker. I dag råder det historiske domæne over mere end 60 hektar fremragende placerede Premier og Grand Cru-vinmarker fordelt over Côte de Beaune og Côte de Nuits. Ejendommen er verdenskendt for sin legendariske velgørenhedsauktion, som er blevet afholdt hver november siden 1859.
