The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 'Cuvée du Roi Soleil' is one of the most prestigious white wine cuvées offered by the Hospices de Beaune. It pays tribute to King Louis XIV, the 'Sun King', who visited the Hospices in 1658 and was a legendary patron of Burgundy's finest nectars. Sourced from prized, steep parcels of Chardonnay on the iconic hill of Corton, this wine benefits from limestone-dominant soils and optimal sun exposure. The terroir imparts a majestic power, intense concentration, and a signature flinty minerality. Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, the Hospices de Beaune was established as a charitable hospital supported by donations of prime vineyard parcels. Today, the historic estate encompasses over 60 hectares of exceptionally situated Premier and Grand Cru vineyards across Burgundy's Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Revered worldwide for its historic charity wine auction held every November since 1859, the domaine employs meticulous, organic viticultural techniques to highlight the uncompromised terroir of each plot.
