This legendary Cuvée originates from a generous donation made in 1976 by Madeleine Collignon. The vines are situated in the prestigious Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru climat, specifically within the prized slopes of Mazis-Haut, where they benefit from excellent drainage and iron-rich clay-limestone soils. This Pinot Noir is celebrated for its immense power, deep complexity, and velvety texture, representing one of the most coveted and historically significant red cuvées offered at the annual Hospices de Beaune charity auction. Following the auction, the wine is traditionally raised in oak casks by selected Burgundy négociants-éleveurs, allowing its profound terroir expression to fully mature.

Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, the Hospices de Beaune was established as a charitable hospital supported by donations of prime vineyard parcels. Today, the historic estate encompasses over 60 hectares of exceptionally situated Premier and Grand Cru vineyards across Burgundy's Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Revered worldwide for its historic charity wine auction held every November since 1859, the domaine employs meticulous, organic viticultural techniques to highlight the uncompromised terroir of each plot. Its celebrated portfolio consists of distinguished Pinot Noir and Chardonnay cuvées, each named in honor of prominent historical benefactors such as Cuvée Nicolas Rolin and Cuvée Charlotte Dumay.
