Jacques Selosse's 'Lieux-Dits Côte Faron' is a masterclass in terroir-driven Champagne, originating from a single, steeply sloped, south-facing parcel in the legendary Grand Cru village of Aÿ. Unlike the estate's famous Chardonnay-focused cuvées, Côte Faron is a Blanc de Noirs crafted entirely from Pinot Noir. Anselme Selosse introduced his lieu-dit series to highlight the distinct personalities of specific villages, employing a solera-style fractional blending system that dates back to 1994 for this parcel. The 'RP' in the designation stands for 'Région Pinot', with the accompanying number indicating the base vintage. Fermented in oak casks with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, this wine offers an incredibly vinous, powerful, and oxidative profile, capturing the intense warmth, structure, and mineral depth of Aÿ's chalky soils.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Founded in 1949 in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Champagne Jacques Selosse rose to legendary status under the visionary leadership of Anselme Selosse, who took over the estate in 1974. Applying Burgundian winemaking philosophies to the Côte des Blancs, Anselme pioneered low yields, organic viticulture, and fermentation in oak casks, fundamentally transforming modern Champagne production. The estate is celebrated for its highly individualistic, terroir-driven cuvées, including the solera-aged Substance and the acclaimed Lieux-dits series, which showcase an unparalleled depth, oxidative complexity, and vinous character.
