Jean-Claude Ramonet's Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru 'Clos de la Boudriotte' Rouge is a legendary expression of red Burgundy from an appellation primarily famous today for its whites. Clos de la Boudriotte is a historic monopole vineyard of Domaine Ramonet, nestled within the larger Morgeot climat. The terroir here features heavy clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of iron-rich red clay, which is exceptionally well-suited to Pinot Noir. Ramonet's traditional winemaking approach—utilizing old vines, meticulous sorting, partial destemming, and careful aging in French oak—yields a red wine of remarkable structure, rustic elegance, and deep earthy complexity. Established officially in 1930 by patriarch Pierre Ramonet, Domaine Ramonet stands as one of the Côte de Beaune's most revered viticultural benchmark estates. Beginning from humble parcels in Les Grandes Ruchottes purchased in 1934, the domaine expanded its historical holdings across iconic Jurassic limestone and clay marl terroirs in Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, famously acquiring a prized sliver of Grand Cru Le Montrachet in 1978. Now steered by third-generation vigneron Jean-Claude Ramonet alongside his family, the estate cultivates approximately 17 hectares under sustainable, lutte raisonnée practices with rigorous yield limitation and soil plowing. In the cellar, low-intervention vinification emphasizes gentle pneumatic pressing, native yeast fermentation with minimal racking, and measured oak maturation.
