Julian Haart's Schiefer Riesling is a masterful tribute to the steep, Devonian slate slopes of the Mosel Valley. Sourced from estate-grown vineyards in and around the historic village of Piesport, this wine captures the essence of the region's dramatic terroir. Haart, who honed his craft under legendary mentors Klaus Peter Keller and Egon Müller, applies the same meticulous, low-intervention philosophy to this estate bottling as he does to his grand crus. Spontaneously fermented in a mix of stainless steel and traditional oak Fuder, the wine showcases the classic tension between vibrant, electric acidity and a deep, smoky minerality. It is a pure expression of Mosel heritage, where winemaking on these near-vertical cliffs dates back to Roman times, relying on the slate soils to absorb daytime heat and sustain the vines through cool nights.

Founded in 2010 by Julian and Nadine Haart, Weingut Julian Haart is situated in the historic village of Piesport along Germany's Middle Mosel. Having honed his craft under iconic masters such as Klaus Peter Keller and Egon Müller, Julian quickly established his boutique estate as one of Germany's most revered modern cult producers. Cultivating prized, precipitous slate terroirs including Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Wintricher Ohligsberg, and the legendary ungrafted vines of Schubertslay, the winery prioritizes meticulous vineyard management and low-intervention cellar practices.
