Hailing from the wind-swept shores of Islay, Scotland, this exceptional 16-year-old single malt was distilled at the legendary Laphroaig distillery and selected by the independent bottler, The Character of Islay Whisky Company, for their prestigious Antipodes series. Laphroaig, founded in 1815 by the Johnston brothers, is world-renowned for its uncompromisingly smoky, medicinal, and maritime character. This profile is born from Islay's unique peat, rich in decomposed moss and seaweed, which is used to dry the malted barley. Over its 16 years of maturation, the fierce, medicinal peat smoke of youth has beautifully integrated with oak, yielding a complex spirit where intense peat, brine, and iodine harmonize with rich vanilla sweetness, charred oak, and subtle citrus notes. It stands as a testament to the rugged coastal terroir of Islay and the slow alchemy of traditional Scotch whisky maturation.

Laphroaig blev grundlagt i 1815 af brødrene Donald og Alexander Johnston på den rå sydkyst af Isle of Islay og regnes i dag for et af Skotlands mest ikoniske og karakterfulde single malt-destillerier. Destilleriet er berømt for sin kompromisløse, medicinske og maritime profil og holder de stolte håndværkstraditioner i hævd ved selv at håndstikke lokal Islay-tørv fra Glenmachrie samt drive egne, historiske maltgulve. Kombinationen af koldrøgning og blødt, tørveholdigt vand fra Kilbride Reservoir giver en umiskendelig spiritus, der er rig på noter af tang, jod og markant tørverøg.
