Laphroaig, established in 1815 on the south coast of Islay by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston, is world-renowned for its uncompromisingly smoky and medicinal single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery's unique character is shaped by the soft, peat-filtered water of the Kilbride Stream and their traditional on-site floor maltings, which infuse the barley with the distinctively phenolic, iodine-rich smoke of Islay peat. This specific release, matured in a single ex-bourbon barrel (Cask No 35633), showcases the beautiful interplay between Laphroaig's intense, maritime peat smoke and the sweet, softening influence of American oak. The ex-bourbon wood imparts delicate notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and honeyed sweetness, which elegantly temper the bold medicinal, seaweed, and tarry notes characteristic of the distillery's spirit.
