Markus Molitor's Erdener Prälat Riesling 3*** represents the absolute zenith of Mosel winemaking, sourced from one of the region's most legendary and microscopic grand cru sites. Spanning barely 1.5 hectares, the Erdener Prälat vineyard is nestled beneath towering, heat-retaining red slate cliffs on an incredibly steep, south-facing bend of the Mosel River. Historically prized by the prelates of the Himmerod Abbey, this exceptional microclimate acts as a natural greenhouse, yielding Riesling grapes of unparalleled ripeness and complexity. Molitor's meticulous three-star designation denotes his ultimate selection of these grapes. Fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts and aged on its fine lees in traditional neutral oak Fuder casks, this 100% Riesling showcases a profound tension between opulent exotic stone fruits, smoky red-slate minerality, and a razor-sharp, vibrating acidity.

Taking over his family's estate in 1984 at just twenty years old, Markus Molitor set out to restore the Mosel region's historic prestige through uncompromising quality and traditional craftsmanship. Based at the historic Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Kues, the winery meticulously farms steep, slate-rich vineyards across the Mosel and Saar, utilizing extremely late hand-harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak Fuder casks. Molitor is globally renowned for his precise, mineral-driven Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dryness levels—as well as his structured, elegant Spätburgunder. This obsessive dedication to terroir has earned the estate numerous perfect 100-point scores, cementing its status as an icon of German winemaking.
