✨ Technical Specifications

While the steep, slate-strewn slopes of the Mosel Valley are globally synonymous with world-class Riesling, Markus Molitor has spent decades proving that this cool-climate terroir can produce equally breathtaking Pinot Noir (Spatburgunder). The Trarbacher Schlossberg vineyard, characterized by its dramatic incline and iron-rich Devonian slate soils, coaxes a hauntingly mineral and highly aromatic profile from the vines. Molitor's three-star (***) designation represents the absolute pinnacle of his red wine production, indicating a selection of the finest, lowest-yielding parcels. The grapes undergo meticulous hand-sorting, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, and extended aging in French oak barriques. This results in a wine of immense structure, seamless silkiness, and a distinct smoky minerality that beautifully bridges Burgundian elegance with Mosel's unique geological signature.

🍾 About the Producer

Founded upon an eighth-generation family viticultural heritage, Weingut Markus Molitor was transformed in 1984 when twenty-year-old Markus Molitor took over the estate at Haus Klosterberg with the dedicated mission of restoring Mosel Riesling to its historic world-class stature. Situated in Bernkastel-Kues in Germany's legendary Mosel region, the winery meticulously cultivates precipitous slate vineyards across renowned grand cru sites such as Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Erdener Treppchen. Molitor practices low yields, ultra-selective late hand-harvesting, and gentle spontaneous fermentation in ancient, deep vaulted cellars with minimal intervention. The estate is globally celebrated for its site-expressive Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dry, off-dry, and botrytized sweet styles—as well as remarkably complex, structured Pinot Noir.
