Hailing from Chile's expansive Central Valley, this Gran Reserva represents a harmonious marriage of two powerhouse red varieties. The region's Mediterranean climate, characterized by warm, sun-drenched days and cool nights influenced by the Andes Mountains and the Pacific breeze, allows both Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon to reach optimal phenolic ripeness. Viña Morandé crafts this blend to showcase the plush, dark fruit and exotic spice of Syrah alongside the structured, graphite-tinged elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in a combination of French oak barrels and traditional larger foudres, the wine develops a complex profile of blackberries, wild plums, cracked black pepper, and sweet tobacco, embodying the innovative yet terroir-respecting spirit that defines the estate.
🍾 About the Producer
Viña Morandé was founded in 1996 by visionary winemaker Pablo Morandé, widely celebrated as the viticultural pioneer who introduced commercial vine plantings to the cool, maritime-influenced Casablanca Valley. Now operating under the Morandé Wine Group umbrella with historical headquarters and cellars centered in Pelequén, the estate farms extensively across prime Chilean macro-terroirs ranging from coastal Casablanca and Limarí to the granitic dry-farmed Secano Interior of Maule and Itata. Under the cellar direction of Ricardo Baettig alongside Pablo Morandé, the winery is renowned for innovative technical methods, including early adoption of high-density plantings, concrete eggs, and traditional untoasted foudres.
