Niepoort's 'VV' (Vinum Vinum) Very Old Tawny is a legendary monument in the world of Port, originally conceived by Eduard Dirk Niepoort in the mid-20th century and later revived by his grandson, Dirk. This extraordinary blend is crafted from some of the oldest and rarest wines resting in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, with a significant portion of the blend tracing back to the mythical 1863 vintage—a pre-phylloxera masterpiece. Made from traditional Douro grape varieties grown in schist soils, the wine has undergone over a century of slow, oxidative concentration in wooden pipes. The result is a liquid history book, boasting incredible aromatic complexity, infinite depth, and a vibrant, high-acid spine that defies its extreme age. It represents the pinnacle of the blender's art and the ultimate expression of time-matured Tawny Port.
