Overture is the second wine of Opus One, produced as a multi-vintage Bordeaux-style red blend from the estate's vineyards in Oakville, Napa Valley. The wine typically comprises Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Because it is a multi-vintage blend, it combines lot selections from different years, which are aged in French oak barrels. This production method aims to deliver a wine that exhibits a softer, more approachable structure upon release while maintaining the complexity and terroir-driven character of the estate's Oakville soils.

Established in 1979 through an unprecedented partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, Opus One represents a seminal bridge between classical Bordeaux pedigree and Napa Valley viticultural ambition. Set across 170 estate acres in the heart of the Oakville AVA—including prized historical parcels within the To Kalon vineyard—the estate benefits from warm, sun-drenched diurnal shifts, well-draining gravelly loam soils, and cooling maritime afternoon breezes funneling through the Napa Valley corridor. Vineyard management is certified organic through CCOF and employs holistic regenerative viticulture designed to preserve microbial soil life and optimize vine balance. The winemaking ethos marries meticulous parcel-by-parcel harvesting with gravity-fed stainless-steel vinification and roughly 18 months of maturation in new French oak barriques. Opus One produces a singular, globally benchmarked Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend celebrated for its structural tension, velvety tannins, and cassis-tinged longevity, alongside its multi-vintage companion bottling, Overture.
