✨ Technical Specifications
The Verdelho Reserva from Pereira D'Oliveira represents a classic expression of Madeira's medium-dry style, crafted from the noble Verdelho grape. Historically, Verdelho was one of the most widely planted varieties on the island, favored for its ability to retain searing acidity while developing rich, smoky, and nutty complexities. Grown on steep, volcanic terraces exposed to dramatic Atlantic winds, the grapes are harvested and fermented before undergoing the traditional canteiro aging process. In this system, the wines are matured in seasoned oak casks placed in warm lofts, where they are gently heated by the sun over years. This deliberate exposure to heat and oxygen mimics the historic sea voyages of the 17th and 18th centuries, during which sailors discovered that heat actually improved the wine. D'Oliveira's signature style shines through in this Reserva, offering a beautiful tension between tangy citrus acidity, dried stone fruits, and a distinctive, savory, smoky undertone.
