✨ Technical Specifications
Prunotto's legacy in Piedmont dates back to the early 20th century when Alfredo Prunotto took over the social cellar 'Ai Vini di Langa', transforming it into a beacon of quality. While Piedmont is famous for Nebbiolo, Prunotto has long championed Barbera, elevating it from a rustic everyday pour to a noble, age-worthy masterpiece. Their Barbera Riserva style—often sourced from prized estate vineyards in the Asti or Alba regions—harnesses the grape's naturally high acidity and rich fruit profile. Grown on complex soils of calcareous clay and sand, the grapes undergo careful selection and extended aging in a combination of French oak barriques and traditional large casks. This process tames Barbera's wild edge, wrapping its bright cherry and blackberry core in sophisticated layers of sweet spice, cocoa, and earthy complexity, paying homage to the historical resilience of Piedmontese winemaking.
🍾 About the Producer
Originally established in 1904 as the cooperative 'Ai Vini delle Langhe', the estate was acquired and redefined by visionary winemaker Alfredo Prunotto in 1922, establishing a legacy of excellence in Alba, Piedmont. After decades of pioneering single-vineyard cru bottlings under the Colla family, the historic estate became part of the Marchesi Antinori family in 1989, blending centuries-old Tuscan heritage with classic Piedmontese tradition. Prunotto champions precision viticulture and terroir-focused winemaking across the region's top terroirs, crafting legendary Nebbiolo expressions such as Barolo Bussia and Barbaresco Bric Turot alongside vibrant Barbera d'Asti, Roero Arneis, and fine grappas.
