The Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese from Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is a masterclass in Mosel slate minerality and historical pedigree. The vineyard of Brauneberg, or 'Brown Mountain,' was historically praised by Thomas Jefferson and is renowned for its steep, south-facing slopes of weathered Devonian blue slate. The name 'Juffer' (meaning virgin or nun) stems from a local legend of a nobleman's three daughters who chose a life of devotion to their vines over marriage, while the 'Sonnenuhr' refers to the historic sundial erected in the vineyard to guide the workers. This Spätlese is crafted from 100% Riesling grapes, hand-harvested late in the season to capture concentrated sugars and complex aromatics. Fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts, the wine beautifully balances luscious sweetness with the Mosel's signature electric acidity, offering notes of ripe peach, apricot, and wet stone.
