Schiefer Riesling Trocken
β³ Drinking Window
2026 - 2031
π· Vintage Profile
A wet spring replenished water reserves before rapid June flowering, followed by an alternating cycle of midsummer heat and persistent late-summer rain that elevated mildew pressure across steep slate sites. Warm, sunny conditions throughout September propelled physiological ripeness, prompting an urgent, meticulous harvest ahead of October downpours to secure clean fruit with razor-sharp natural acidity. Highly regarded as a classic, tension-driven Mosel vintage, this dry bottling is showing prime youthful vibrancy in 2026 and will drink exceptionally well through 2030.
π½οΈ Food & Wine Pairings
Pan-seared trout with lemon butter, fresh goat cheese crostini, and light shellfish crudo.
β¨ Technical Specifications
Devonian slate soils define this dry Saar Riesling, harvested from steep hillside parcels that benefit from cool regional air currents and extended hang times. Vinification centers on spontaneous fermentation utilizing indigenous yeasts, followed by maturation in a combination of temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and traditional neutral oak casks. The approach emphasizes taut mineral drive, crystalline transparency, and pure varietal character without oak influence.
πΎ About the Producer
Dating back to 1627 as an ecclesiastical estate, Weingut Reverchon transitioned into private hands in 1685 before being acquired in 1921 by the Reverchon banking family, who established its Swiss-chalet manor house and vaulted slate cellars. Located in Konz-Filzen within the Saar subregion of the Mosel, the historic property entered a renaissance in 2007 under entrepreneur Hans Maret alongside winemaker Ralph Herke. Reverchon stewards approximately 20 hectares of steep vineyards dominated by weathered Devonian slate soils, a cool climate, and prolonged ripening cycles. Viticulture is certified sustainable under Fair'n Green, banning herbicides and pesticides while emphasizing gentle pruning. Vinification relies on spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and neutral Stockinger oak casks. Reverchon is celebrated for crystalline, terroir-driven Saar Rieslings and traditional-method vintage sparkling wines, highlighted by its signature monopole Filzener Herrenberg and grand cru parcels in the Ockfener Bockstein.
