Richly tied to Alsatian history, the name 'Tokay Pinot Gris' recalls the legendary tale of Baron Lazarus von Schwendi, who allegedly brought vines back from the Hungarian town of Tokaj after fighting the Turks in the 16th century. While modern ampelography proved the grape was actually Pinot Gris from Burgundy, the historic name persisted in Alsace for centuries. Domaine Rolly Gassmann's expression of this grape is legendary. Sourced from the complex, mosaic-like clay-limestone soils of Rorschwihr, the wine undergoes exceptionally slow, cool fermentations using indigenous yeasts. Pierre Gassmann's signature style embraces a touch of natural residual sweetness, perfectly balanced by a spine of vibrant acidity and deep mineral structure. True to the domaine's patient philosophy, these wines are aged extensively in their cellars, emerging as texturally opulent, multi-layered masterpieces.

Formed in 1967 through the marriage of two historic viticultural lineages whose roots in the region trace back to 1611 and 1676, Domaine Rolly Gassmann is situated in the village of Rorschwihr in Alsace, France. Today managed by Pierre Gassmann and his family, the estate stewards over 50 hectares planted across an intricate mosaic of distinct geological terroirs with a deep commitment to sustainable and biodynamic principles. The domaine is renowned for its patient philosophy of aging wines in bottle for years or even decades prior to commercial release, allowing them to attain remarkable maturity and harmony. They are internationally celebrated for their opulent, off-dry and sweet white wines—most notably expressive Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer cuvées alongside legendary Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles.
