Crafted only in rare vintages when nature aligns perfectly, the Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Eiswein is a testament to the extreme viticulture of the Middle Mosel. The Himmelreich, meaning 'Kingdom of Heaven', features steep, south-facing slopes of weathered Devonian slate that capture the daytime sun. To produce this legendary sweet elixir, Riesling grapes must remain on the vine into the freezing depths of winter. Harvested by hand in the shivering pre-dawn hours at temperatures of -7 degrees Celsius or lower, the grapes are pressed while still frozen. This process leaves the water behind as ice, extracting only a highly concentrated, nectar-like juice rich in natural sugars, vibrant acidity, and deep mineral character. Fermented slowly in traditional cellars, the resulting Eiswein is a breathtaking balance of luscious sweetness and electric, laser-like acidity.

Steeped in centuries of family winemaking tradition along the dramatic slate slopes of the Middle Mosel, Weingut Selbach-Oster represents one of Germany's most distinguished Riesling estates. Managed by Johannes Selbach and his family, the estate meticulously tends prized, steep vineyard parcels across legendary grand cru sites including the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Schlossberg, and Wehlener Sonnenuhr, home to significant plantings of ancient, ungrafted vines. Cellar practices emphasize minimal intervention, relying on native yeast fermentations and maturation in traditional large oak Fuder casks to capture pure terroir expression and vibrant acidity. Selbach-Oster is celebrated worldwide for its benchmark, slate-driven Rieslings spanning crisp, mineral-rich Kabinett and Spätlese bottlings to profound, luscious single-vineyard Auslese and rare Eiswein expressions.
