✨ wine.spec_sheet

The Tedeschi family, whose winemaking heritage in Valpolicella dates back to 1630, established the Maternigo estate as a testament to precision viticulture. The name Maternigo, meaning 'maternal home,' historically refers to a place of refuge and sanctuary. Situated in the eastern hills of the Valpolicella zone between the Mezzane and Tregnago valleys, this single-estate wine benefits from a unique microclimate and highly calcareous soils rich in white and pink limestone. A meticulous zoning study led the family to plant Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes on these pristine slopes. The wine undergoes traditional fermentation followed by aging in Slavonian oak casks. This process preserves the vibrant acidity and deep mineral core characteristic of the terroir, resulting in a Valpolicella Superiore of remarkable elegance, structure, and bright red-fruit character.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1824 when Nicolò Tedeschi purchased his first vineyards, the Tedeschi estate is located in Pedemonte, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region of Veneto, Italy. Owned and managed by the Tedeschi family for generations, the winery is highly respected for its commitment to terroir-driven research, clonal selection, and the traditional appassimento grape-drying process. They are particularly renowned for pioneering single-vineyard Amarone wines, most notably from the iconic Monte Olmi vineyard acquired in 1918. Their exceptional portfolio includes acclaimed expressions like the Marne 180 Amarone, the elegant Maternigo, and the historic Capitel Monte Olmi Riserva, representing the pinnacle of Valpolicella winemaking.
