Hailing from the historic Valpolicella Classico zone in Veneto, Tedeschi's Capitel Monte Olmi is a legendary single-vineyard Amarone that helped pioneer the 'cru' concept in the region when it was first bottled in 1964. The Monte Olmi vineyard is a steep, terraced 2.5-hectare site in Pedemonte with clay-limestone soils and a high rock content, which provides exceptional drainage and mineral complexity. The wine is crafted from a traditional blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes. Following a meticulous harvest, the grapes undergo the ancient 'appassimento' process, drying for several months in specialized fruit drying rooms to concentrate their sugars, acids, and flavors. After a slow fermentation, the wine is aged for up to four years in Slavonian oak casks, resulting in a monumental, deeply structured red wine rich with notes of dried dark fruits, cocoa, tobacco, and wild herbs.
