โจ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the historic Valpolicella Classico zone in Veneto, Tedeschi's Capitel Monte Olmi is a legendary single-vineyard Amarone that helped pioneer the 'cru' concept in the region when it was first bottled in 1964. The Monte Olmi vineyard is a steep, terraced 2.5-hectare site in Pedemonte with clay-limestone soils and a high rock content, which provides exceptional drainage and mineral complexity. The wine is crafted from a traditional blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes. Following a meticulous harvest, the grapes undergo the ancient 'appassimento' process, drying for several months in specialized fruit drying rooms to concentrate their sugars, acids, and flavors. After a slow fermentation, the wine is aged for up to four years in Slavonian oak casks, resulting in a monumental, deeply structured red wine rich with notes of dried dark fruits, cocoa, tobacco, and wild herbs.
๐พ About the Producer
Tracing its viticultural heritage back to 1630, Agricola Fratelli Tedeschi is a cornerstone of the Valpolicella Classica region. Based in Pedemonte, the estate is directed by siblings Antonietta, Sabrina, and winemaker Riccardo Tedeschi, who carry forward a multi-generational legacy refined by their father Lorenzo. Lorenzo pioneered single-vineyard bottlings in Valpolicella in the 1960s with the legendary Capitel Monte Olmi. The Tedeschi vineyardsโspanning prominent crus including Monte Olmi, La Fabriseria, and Maternigoโoccupy terraced limestone, marl, and calcareous clay soils ranging from 130 to over 400 meters in elevation. Employing precise micro-zonation and certified sustainable practices through Equalitas and Biodiversity Friend, Tedeschi champions indigenous Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella alongside historic varieties like Oseleta. Winemaking centers on measured, climate-controlled appassimento, extended fermentations, and disciplined aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The resulting Amarone della Valpolicella and Valpolicella Superiore wines are internationally acclaimed for their crystalline aromatic purity, structural tension, and age-worthy elegance.
