Planted in 1908 on the deep, sandy alluvial soils of the Hunter Valley floor, Johnno's Vineyard is home to some of Tyrrell's oldest and most treasured own-rooted Semillon vines. Named in honor of John 'Johnno' Tyrrell, this historic plot produces a wine of remarkable pedigree and distinct terroir. True to traditional Hunter Valley methods but with a unique artisanal touch, the grapes are hand-harvested and gently basket-pressed in the old winery. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures without any oak contact, preserving the pristine, laser-sharp acidity and intense citrus and lemongrass character of the ancient vines. In its youth, it is vibrant and mineral-driven, but with age, it transforms into a complex masterpiece of toasted brioche, honey, and beeswax.

Established in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious family-owned wineries, located in the historic Pokolbin sub-region of the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Today, under the guidance of fourth-generation family member Bruce Tyrrell, the estate continues to champion its rich heritage while managing some of the region's oldest dry-grown vineyards. Tyrrell's is globally celebrated for its benchmark Hunter Valley Semillon, particularly the iconic Vat 1 Semillon, which showcases extraordinary longevity and complexity without oak contact. The winery is also a pioneer of Australian Chardonnay, exemplified by the historic Vat 47, alongside exceptional, elegant Shiraz expressions such as Vat 9, cementing its status as an icon of Australian viticulture.
