Tyrrell's Long Flat Red is one of Australia's most historic and iconic everyday red blends. First released in 1966 by the legendary Murray Tyrrell, it was created to offer an approachable, easy-drinking, and affordable red wine that captured the sunshine of New South Wales. Named after a flat paddock near the historic Pokolbin homestead, this wine played a pivotal role in introducing generations of Australians to red wine. Historically crafted as a classic Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, it combined the spicy, soft plum characters of Shiraz with the structure and blackcurrant notes of Cabernet. Though the brand was eventually sold in the 2000s, its legacy remains as a pioneer of the modern, fruit-forward Australian red blend style.

Founded in 1858 by Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious family-owned wineries, nestled against the Brokenback Range in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. Spanning five generations of family stewardship, the estate played a seminal role in shaping modern Australian viticulture, including pioneering the country's first commercial Chardonnay with the legendary Vat 47 in 1971. The winery remains dedicated to traditional, minimal-intervention winemaking and the preservation of historic, own-rooted old-vine parcels that yield exceptional regional character.
