✨ Technical Specifications
Valbuena 5° represents the purest and most vibrant expression of the Vega Sicilia terroir, named for the five years it spends aging in wood and bottle before its release. Sourced from the estate's historic clay-limestone slopes in Valbuena de Duero, this red is crafted primarily from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with a small, precise addition of Merlot. Unlike its older sibling Unico, Valbuena focuses on capturing a more immediate, fruit-forward intensity without sacrificing the estate's signature complexity. The aging regimen is a masterclass in patience, utilizing a combination of new and used French and American oak barrels, alongside large wooden vats, to seamlessly integrate the wine's powerful structure. The result is a legendary Spanish red that bridges the gap between classical elegance and modern Ribera del Duero intensity, whispering tales of the Duero River's dramatic continental climate and centuries-old winemaking heritage.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves in Valbuena de Duero within Spain's Ribera del Duero region, Vega Sicilia stands as one of the most legendary and revered wine estates in the world. Acquired by the Álvarez family in 1982, the winery has steadfastly preserved its heritage of meticulous viticulture and aristocratic winemaking, harmonizing indigenous Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with Bordeaux varietals. Renowned for exceptionally long barrel and bottle aging regimens that often span a decade or more before release, the estate crafts complex, long-lived masterworks. Its flagship cuvées, including the iconic Único, the multi-vintage Único Reserva Especial, and Valbuena 5°, remain timeless benchmarks of Spanish winemaking excellence.
