✨ Technical Specifications
Verget's Mâcon-Charnay 'Le Banc' is a benchmark white Burgundy that showcases the revolutionary vision of Jean-Marie Guffens. The name 'Le Banc' refers to the distinct limestone bench or bed upon which the vineyards of Charnay-lès-Mâcon sit. This specific terroir, rich in active limestone and stony clay, imparts a remarkable, Chablis-like mineral tension to the 100% Chardonnay grapes. Verget utilizes precise, low-intervention winemaking, fermenting and aging the wine primarily in stainless steel and concrete vats to preserve its crystalline purity. The result is an incredibly expressive white Burgundy defined by vibrant citrus, white peach, and flinty mineral notes, offering exceptional energy and a salty, mouthwatering finish that punches far above its appellation status.
🍾 About the Producer
Maison Verget was established in 1990 by visionary Belgian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen in Sologny, located in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Renowned as a trailblazing négociant-éleveur, the house revolutionized Burgundy winemaking by implementing uncompromising standards of fruit selection, gentle horizontal pressing, and precise maturation on fine lees with minimal oak intervention. While celebrated globally for its pure, mineral-laden Chardonnay sourced across prime terroirs from the Mâconnais to Chablis and the Côte d'Or, Verget also applies its meticulous craft to expressive Pinot Noir and pioneering southern expressions. The resulting wines are acclaimed for their tension, crystalline purity, and authentic expression of site.
