✨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the rolling hills of the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, Verget's 'L'Evroute' (often styled as Levroute) showcases the brilliant potential of the Chardonnay grape when grown on the region's classic clay-limestone soils. The name refers to a specific, sun-drenched vineyard plot in the commune of Charnay-lès-Mâcon, where the vines benefit from excellent drainage and optimal ripening conditions. True to the pioneering spirit of founders Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens, this cuvée is crafted with meticulous care: whole-cluster pressing is followed by fermentation and aging on fine lees in temperature-controlled vats. This technique coaxes out a beautiful tension, balancing rich notes of yellow peach and fresh pear with a stony, saline minerality. It is a wine that captures the pure, unadorned essence of Mâconnais terroir, free from heavy oak influence.
🍾 About the Producer
Maison Verget was established in 1990 by visionary Belgian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen in Sologny, located in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Renowned as a trailblazing négociant-éleveur, the house revolutionized Burgundy winemaking by implementing uncompromising standards of fruit selection, gentle horizontal pressing, and precise maturation on fine lees with minimal oak intervention. While celebrated globally for its pure, mineral-laden Chardonnay sourced across prime terroirs from the Mâconnais to Chablis and the Côte d'Or, Verget also applies its meticulous craft to expressive Pinot Noir and pioneering southern expressions. The resulting wines are acclaimed for their tension, crystalline purity, and authentic expression of site.
