Hailing from the stony, fossil-rich soils of Fleys—a historic winemaking commune nestled on the right bank of the Serein river in Chablis—Verget's 'Terroir Fleys' is a masterclass in pure, mineral-driven Chardonnay. Jean-Marie Guffens, the iconoclastic force behind Maison Verget, selected this specific terroir for its classic Kimmeridgian limestone, packed with prehistoric oyster shells that impart a signature saline tension to the wine. True to Verget's philosophy of minimal intervention and terroir preservation, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented primarily in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. This avoids the mask of heavy oak, allowing the natural, laser-sharp acidity, flinty wet-stone aromatics, and crisp green apple flavors of the Fleys terroir to shine brilliantly. It is a vibrant, energetic expression of Chablis that honors the ancient maritime heritage of the region.
