Villa Maria, founded in 1961 by Sir George Fistonich, is one of New Zealand's most celebrated historic wineries. The Southern Clays Sauvignon Blanc is a single-vineyard expression that highlights the unique terroir of Marlborough's Southern Valleys. Unlike the stony, free-draining riverbed soils of the Wairau Valley, the Southern Clays vineyard is defined by ancient, nutrient-rich clay soils. These heavy soils naturally restrict vine vigor and retain moisture, forcing the roots deep and resulting in lower yields of highly concentrated fruit. This terroir imparts a distinctive structural weight and flinty minerality to the wine, setting it apart from typical tropical Marlborough styles. Fermented cool in stainless steel to preserve its aromatic purity, the wine often undergoes extended lees contact to enhance its rich, textured mouthfeel.

Villa Maria blev grundlagt i 1961 af Sir George Fistonich og står i dag som et af New Zealands mest anerkendte og banebrydende vinhuse.
