The vineyard takes its name from the historic ruins of Burg Ehrenfels, a 13th-century castle that stands sentinel over the vines. The 'Alte Reben' (old vines) planted here must struggle through demanding soils of red slate, quartzite, and gravel, forcing their roots deep into the bedrock. With family viticultural heritage in Rüdesheim tracing back to 1744, Weingut Leitz began a dynamic modern era when Johannes Leitz took helm of the family estate in 1985.
