✨ Technical Specifications
Perched on precipitous terraces rising directly above the Rhine River gorge, Berg Schlossberg represents the steepest and warmest Grand Cru site in the Rheingau. The microclimate combines intense solar radiation reflected off the river surface with heat stored in the weathered quartzite and Devonian purple-gray slate soils. Vines dig deep into fissure cracks, yielding minuscule crops of concentrated fruit. Vinification emphasizes native yeast fermentation in neutral wooden Stückfass casks alongside temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by extended maturation on fine lees to build mid-palate density while preserving razor-sharp acidity and profound mineral tension.
🍾 About the Producer
Weingut Leitz traces its familial viticultural ancestry back to 1744, though its modern renaissance commenced in 1985 when Johannes Leitz assumed control of the war-ravaged, 2.9-hectare family estate in Rüdesheim am Rhein. Through meticulous parcel acquisition and restoration of steep, historic slate and quartzite terraces, Leitz transformed the domaine into a premier Rheingau reference point. The estate's premier holdings encompass celebrated VDP.Grosse Lagen crus on the dramatic south-facing slopes of the Rüdesheimer Berg, including Berg Schlossberg, Berg Roseneck, Berg Kaisersteinfels, and Berg Rottland Hinterhaus. Farming is conducted sustainably under FAIR'N GREEN certification, employing green cover crops, pomace composting, and manual slope work. Cellar practices combine spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and neutral Stückfass casks, yielding dry Rieslings characterized by crystalline minerality, razor-sharp tension, and phenolic depth, alongside innovative benchmarks such as the non-alcoholic Eins Zwei Zero portfolio.
