The Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg is legendary as the steepest vineyard site in the Rheingau, boasting slopes with up to a seventy percent incline that plunge dramatically toward the Rhine River. Named after the historic ruins of Burg Ehrenfels, a thirteenth-century castle that still stands watch over the vines, this grand cru terroir is a sun-drenched amphitheater of Taunus quartzite and weathered slate. Weingut Leitz's 'Alte Reben' (Old Vines) bottling harnesses the deep-reaching root systems of these ancient, resilient vines. By drawing nutrients from deep within the fractured rock, the vines yield a dry Riesling of extraordinary concentration, crystalline minerality, and structural power.
