Weingut Tement's Weinstock Welschriesling Alte Reben is a masterclass in redefining a grape variety historically underestimated in Central Europe. Sourced from some of the oldest Welschriesling vines in Styria, some of which were planted as far back as the 1930s, this wine shatters the stereotype of Welschriesling as a simple, light tavern wine. Grown on the steep, dramatic slopes of Southern Styria where limestone and clay-marl (locally known as Opok) dominate, these ancient, deep-rooted vines yield tiny, highly concentrated berries. Tement treats this fruit with the utmost reverence: hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented with native yeasts, and matured on its fine lees in large, neutral oak casks. The result is a white wine of breathtaking tension, displaying a complex tapestry of wild herbs, dried stone fruit, and a profound, saline minerality that speaks directly of its ancient terroir.
