The 'Portz' parcel is a historic, prized section of the vineyard characterized by ancient, ungrafted Riesling vines anchored in weathered grey slate. Weingut Vollenweider's meticulous, low-intervention approach in the cellar—utilizing wild yeasts and slow, cool fermentations—allows this Spätlese to capture the profound mineral tension of its terroir. Founded in 1999 by Swiss native Daniel Vollenweider, Weingut Vollenweider is based in Traben-Trarbach in Germany's celebrated Mosel valley. Without family land or inherited infrastructure, Vollenweider dedicated himself to reviving neglected, century-old ungrafted vines clinging to the dramatic, slate-rich amphitheater of the Wolfer Goldgrube. Through meticulous, hands-on cultivation of these extreme steep slopes and traditional, low-intervention cellar work, the estate became a beacon of pure Mosel expression. Today, Weingut Vollenweider is internationally revered for its crystalline, mineral-laden Rieslings, particularly its legendary, highly collectible Auslese and Goldkapsel dessert wines.
