✨ wine.spec_sheet

Crafted as a village-level Ortswein from the limestone-rich slopes of Westhofen, this dry Riesling represents a harmonious bridge between Wittmann's estate bottling and their single-vineyard masterpieces. The fruit is sourced from prestigious, biodynamically farmed holdings in legendary sites like Morstein and Brunnenhäuschen, where the soils are dominated by heavy clay marl and limestone. In the cellar, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in traditional, large neutral oak casks. This time-honored process, combined with the region's unique terroir, yields a wine of remarkable tension, characterized by a vibrant citrus core, smoky mineral depth, and a distinctly salty, structured finish that reflects the ancient limestone seabed of the Rheinhessen.

🍾 wine.about_producer

With a winegrowing heritage in the Rheinhessen village of Westhofen dating back to 1663, Weingut Wittmann is a pioneering force in German biodynamic viticulture, having committed to organic practices in 1990 and biodynamics in 2004. Managed today by Philipp Wittmann alongside his family, the estate is globally revered for its precise, terroir-driven dry Rieslings sourced from legendary Grosses Gewächs sites like Morstein, Kirchspiel, and Aulerde. In their historic vaulted cellar built in 1829, the wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in traditional large oak casks, resulting in structured, mineral-rich expressions of outstanding longevity.
