Xavier Vignon's 'Cuvée XV' is a masterful tribute to the Grenache grape, crafted from old vines—some over a century old—spread across 15 distinct terroirs within the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The Roman numeral 'XV' represents these fifteen diverse soil profiles, ranging from rolled pebbles (galets roulés) to sandy plots and red clay, which Vignon meticulously blends to achieve unparalleled complexity. This cuvée also nods to its natural concentration, which traditionally reaches 15% alcohol. Utilizing innovative, low-intervention winemaking and aging in a combination of concrete vats and selected oak, Vignon coaxes out an incredibly rich profile of dark berries, wild garrigue herbs, and sweet spices, capturing the true, sun-drenched spirit of the Southern Rhône.
