Yamazaki, established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii near Kyoto, is Japan's oldest malt whisky distillery. Located at the confluence of the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers, the distillery benefits from a unique, misty microclimate and exceptionally soft water, which are critical to its legendary fermentation and aging processes. The Yamazaki Single Malt signature style showcases Suntory's pioneering art of blending diverse cask types, including American oak, Spanish Sherry casks, and rare Japanese Mizunara oak. This results in a complex, multi-layered spirit characterized by rich dried fruit notes, sandalwood, and a signature temple incense-like spice.
